Don't you love watching science fiction movies from the 50's, like The Day the Earth Stood Still? What they thought of as "futuristic" technology seems so retro.

Here is 1941's idea of what a car of the future might look like.

It was called the Chrysler Thunderbolt, and only five were ever made! Still, the design made a big impression on the future of automobiles.

At the time, cars had boxy fronts, and tended to have large, round headlights. They could be quite regal looking, but over-designed.

The Chrysler Thunderbolt sought to change all that-- its design was smooth and minimalistic, even sporting hidden headlamps which would become popular decades later.

Just look at the modern Chrysler 200. It has smooth curves that help cut wind drag so it can slip unimpeded through the air at high speeds.
